Commission

Commission Matt Hill
to Compose Your Next Musical Work

Thank you for your interest in commissioning a new work! As a conductor, vocalist, and composer with more than two decades of experience, I partner with you to craft music that prioritizes singability, expressive depth, and thoughtful text setting. This prospectus outlines the commissioning process, pricing, and options for customization.

Why Commission?

Commissioning original music offers your ensemble the opportunity to bring a completely unique artistic vision to life. Whether celebrating an anniversary, honoring a person or theme, or simply engaging your singers with fresh, compelling repertoire, a commission is a lasting investment in your program and in the wider choral community.

Composer’s Commitment

My compositions are shaped by my deep understanding of the voice, ensemble dynamics, and collaborative artistry. You can expect a tailored experience marked by clear communication, singable melodic writing, and thoughtful consideration of your ensemble’s skill level.

“The music we choose for our choirs is the single most determinant factor in their success.”

– Dr. Matt Hill

Choral Commission Pricing & Details

Pricing Structure

Commission pricing is based not only on the duration and complexity of the piece but also on the total time required to bring it to life. This includes text selection, melody writing, voicing, piano or instrumental writing, score layout, and delivery of a professionally engraved score (and parts, where applicable). Reference MIDI recordings and part extraction for instrumental parts are provided at no additional cost.

Prices are based on the type of project. Voicing (SATB, SSA, etc.) does not affect cost because the workload remains relatively constant. Instrumental forces and duration will affect the total, which we will reach together through conversation about your specific goals for the project.
